Bush and light tree trimming at Bear Lake

Northbound trims shrubs and low-hanging branches on Bear Lake Valley properties at a flat hourly rate, up to three visits in a full season. This is shrub and low branch work from the ground. It is not tree service: no climbing, no removals, and nothing that belongs to an arborist.

Shrub shaping and low branch work, up to three visits a season. No climbing, no removals, no heavy tree work.

The line we hold

Light trimming only. No climbing, no tree removal and no heavy tree work. Anything requiring a climb, a chipper or an arborist gets referred out rather than attempted.

  • Spring shape-up

Winter breakage cleaned out, shrubs cut back to a shape they can hold, growth pulled off siding, walkways and window wells.

  • Mid-summer touch-up

A lighter pass to keep the property from looking shaggy through the busiest weeks of the rental season.

  • Fall cleanup

The last pass before snow. Branches over a driveway or a walk get taken down so a snow load does not put them there for you.

  • Low-hanging branch work

Branches that catch a mower, block a path or scrape a vehicle, cut from the ground with a pole saw.

  • Debris handled

Cuttings are gathered and removed as part of the visit rather than left in a pile for somebody else to deal with.

  • Flat hourly rate

One rate, billed for the time on the property, so a light touch-up costs what a light touch-up should.

What this service is

Shrubs, hedges, foundation plantings and low-hanging branches, cut from the ground.

That covers most of what a Bear Lake property actually needs: junipers swallowing a walkway, lilacs that have not been cut in six years, branches dragging on a roofline, growth blocking a window or a view of the water, and whatever the last heavy snow broke.

What this service is not

It is not tree service. No climbing, no rigging, no removals, no stump work, nothing that needs a bucket truck or a certified arborist.

That line is drawn deliberately and it does not move. A landscaping company that takes on tree work without an arborist’s equipment and insurance is one bad afternoon from a very expensive problem, and a limb that comes down wrong at a lakefront property lands on something that costs real money. If a job is on the wrong side of that line, we will say so and point you at somebody who does it properly.

Three visits, and what each one is for

Spring shape-up. The biggest of the three. Winter breakage gets cleaned out, shrubs get cut back to a shape they can hold through the season, and growth gets pulled off siding, windows and walkways. Timed after hard frost risk passes so a fresh cut is followed by growth rather than a freeze.

Mid-summer touch-up. Lighter, and mostly wanted on rented properties. Keeps the place from looking neglected in the photographs during the weeks it is actually earning.

Fall cleanup. The last pass before winter. This is the one where anything hanging over a driveway, a walk or a parking pad comes down, because a branch loaded with wet snow ends up on the driveway at the worst possible moment, usually on the same night the plow is needed.

In a partial season, the fall cleanup is the pass that matters most.

Why it is billed hourly

A flat hourly rate, billed for the time on the property, with debris removal included.

Per-shrub pricing sounds precise and is not. Ten small, regularly maintained foundation shrubs and two lilacs that have gone untouched for years are the same count and nothing like the same job. Hourly is the version where a light touch-up costs what a light touch-up should, and a genuine overhaul costs what it took.

If you want a ceiling on it, say so with the quote request and we will agree what gets done in a set number of hours and what waits for the next visit.

Timing for spring-flowering shrubs

One thing worth knowing before booking a spring shape-up: lilacs, forsythia and other spring bloomers set next year’s flower buds on last year’s wood. Cutting them hard in early spring removes the flowers you were waiting for.

Those get cut right after they finish blooming instead. Tell us which shrubs you care about seeing bloom and they get worked into the schedule that way rather than cut on the same day as everything else.

What moves a number

Three passes, each with a reason.

The bush & tree trimming year at 5,900 feet.

  1. April to May

Spring shape-up. Winter breakage out, shrubs cut back before the flush of new growth.

  2. July

Optional lighter mid-summer pass, mostly for rented properties.

  3. September to October

Fall cleanup, including anything overhanging a driveway or walk before snow season.

Bush & tree trimming across the whole valley

We run bush & tree trimming from Montpelier to Laketown, including the shoreline places between them. Licensed in Idaho and Utah means one company, one standard, and one number, not a referral across the line.

Shrubs at this elevation take a beating that lower valleys do not see: a heavy, wet snow load bending and splitting branches, a short season to recover in, and wind off the lake on the exposed shoreline lots. What needs cutting here is usually damage as much as growth.

Bush & tree trimming FAQ

Will you take down a tree?

No. This is shrub and low branch work from the ground. No climbing, no removals, no heavy tree work. If what you need is a real tree job, we will say so and point you elsewhere rather than take it on.

How is it priced?

A flat hourly rate, billed for time on the property, with debris removal included in the visit. Hourly rather than per shrub, because ten small foundation shrubs and two overgrown lilacs can take the same afternoon.

Why only three visits a season?

Because three is what a full season here supports: a spring shape-up, a light mid-summer pass and a fall cleanup. More than that is selling visits rather than doing work.

When is the best time to cut my shrubs?

For most shrubs here, spring after the risk of hard frost has passed, so the cut is followed by a flush of growth rather than sitting open through a freeze. Spring-flowering shrubs are the exception and are better cut right after they bloom, because next year's buds are already set.

Can you do it while you are here for mowing?

Usually yes, and that is the efficient version. Trimming is not a recurring weekly line, so it gets scheduled onto a visit that is already happening.

  • Storm & yard cleanup

Limbs down after a windstorm, leaves before the snow, whatever winter left behind. Gathered, cleared and hauled away.

  • Lawn mowing

Weekly recurring only, same day, same standard, all season. We don't do drive-by one-offs, which is exactly why the route runs on time.

  • Fertilizer & weed control

A four-step program built for Bear Lake's 5,900-foot elevation and short season, plus standalone spraying for flower and landscape beds.
