Accessibility

This site is built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 at level AA. Many of the people it is written for will be reading it on a phone, outdoors, in bright light, and often in a hurry, so the same choices that help a screen-reader user tend to help everyone.

What that means in practice

• Real headings in order, one main heading per page, landmarks for navigation, main content and footer, and a skip link to the content.
• Everything works with a keyboard, and the element you are on is always visibly outlined.
• Text meets the 4.5:1 contrast ratio against its background, including on the dark green sections and the blue water sections.
• Body text is 16 to 17 pixels with generous line spacing, and no line of body copy runs much past 80 characters.
• Buttons and links are at least 44 pixels tall on a phone.
• The menu, the questions-and-answers sections and the quote form all work with JavaScript turned off.
• Photographs carry descriptions; decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
• Motion respects your system's reduced-motion setting.

Known limitation

The service-area map is a drawing. It has a text description, and every town, distance and drive time on it is also written out as ordinary text and links next to it, so nothing on the map is available only visually.
